One of Newmarket’s chief assets is its exceptional training grounds, which are impeccably maintained by Jockey Club Estates. Such is the extent of the gallops, they are able to cater for every stage of a racehorse’s career.

While George’s string have immediate access to the Racecourse Side exercise grounds, it is also easy to use the facilities on Bury Side – notably Warren Hill, an excellent canter for day-to-day conditioning. George’s experience as assistant to fellow Newmarket trainers Michael Bell and Lady Cecil ensure that he knows which facilities will suit individual horses. Thus, each horse in training with him gets a bespoke exercise programme to maximise performance potential.

Saffron House, on the Hamilton Road, has been described as a lucky yard by past incumbents – both Marco Botti and Charlie Fellowes have used it in the recent past. George has a 50-capacity barn at present but there is the opportunity to add to this.

The boxes are spacious and airy, while also on site he has a horse walker and two turn-out paddocks.

George’s other main asset is an excellent team of staff, who are a blend of experience and energy. They match George in terms of their ambition to achieve the best that’s possible with every horse sent to Saffron House.
