TATTERSALLS HORSES IN TRAINING SALES
The Tattersalls Horses in Training Sales commences on Monday and although we will not see the consistent dizzy prices of the yearling sales, it will be as important, if not a more important sale to me. I am fully aware it will be vital to get my training career off to a positive start. Fortunately, I have inherited a couple of older horses and a small batch of three year olds from Warren Place, however I will be out to add to these next week.
Last year Alex Elliott and I purchased Illusive from Aidan O Brien for £30,000. We were working to a strict budget and bought him on our final bid! We were delighted to secure him however slightly apprehensive having purchased the horse from such an outstanding trainer as Aiden O’ Brien.
Thankfully, as the season progressed Illusive gave his owners some wonderful days at the races. He finished second three times including at Glorious Goodwood and won in great style at Yarmouth finishing the season on a career high rating of 89 having been purchased with a rating of 83.
Illusive will join me at Saffron Stables and despite his new rating, I do feel there is more improvement in him, he wants a mile and a quarter on fast ground. He only needs to improve a couple more pounds to be competitive in the big handicaps next summer. He is a great example of finding a bit of value at the Sales, something I will be out to do next week.
At this stage, I have two or three horses to buy next week with contrasting profiles. However, they will all play an equally important role to me. If possible I would like to purchase a proven Saturday Handicapper, which may have slightly lost his way and also a horse that I feel can win over the winter even if it is only in Claiming or Selling company. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any enquires about the Sale.
