2015 will be a year which I will always remember. I was granted a trainer’s licence in my own name and set up in Saffron House stables. We had two seconds and a winner from only three runners. I feel incredibly fortunate to even be in this privileged position and I would like to thank my family, owners and staff.

Thankfully we have got off to a very positive start, Hamelin was denied by Fire Fighting who was cleverly added to the race, once it had been re-opened. Hamelin is a horse I am particularly looking forward to in 2016. He may well step up to two miles on the 23rd January. I am excited about trying him at this extended trip. Unbelievably, Jaarih was also nailed in the final strides by a horse also entered into a re-opened race. I have certainly learnt a lesson and will be keeping a very close eye on such races in the future. We did not have to wait long as Cajoled looked impressive winning on her first start. It is an honour to train for the Niarchos family and a dream come true to train them a winner.

The team and I at Saffron House are now thoroughly looking forward to 2016. I have a handful of horses to run in January, before a quieter spell leading up to the start of the turf season. I have not set any specific goals or targets. However, I want to continue to improve in all aspects of my business and make sure we provide the best possible service for all of our owners.

Detail and communication are for me the fundamental principles of running my stable.

Bring on 2016.

I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year.
