The Tattersalls February sale, as sales go, would not always be high on the priority list for most trainers. It is often used by larger trainers and owners to disperse of unwanted stock before the start of the turf season.

I therefore worked the sale hard, assisted by Bloodstock Agent Alex Elliott, with the hope of filling my two orders.

Cacica caught our eye early in the morning, she is a well-balanced Cacique filly who is always going to improve with time. I was delighted to secure her for a couple of friends, having to fend off a top Newmarket trainer and various associates of her previous connections in the process. She will now head for a short break at Grovewood Stud to prepare for the spring.

Forest Lakes is physically a totally different type. However, equally interesting on what she has achieved on the track so far. She caught my eye at Kempton finishing a staying on third in the second division of the maiden which we were fortunate enough to win with Cajoled. It was an excellent time and she will also benefit hugely from some spring grass ahead of a turf campaign.

Both fillies are great additions to my team of older horses.
