WINNERS & FUTURE PLANS
Congratulations to Sarah Spencer with her first winner, I'm sure there will be many more to come.
Mr Black (a breeze up purchased by Alex Elliott) won if fine style at Kempton on Monday, justifying my faith in him. Previously at Thirsk he failed to handle the rain softened ground and needed the experience. He's a horse I have always loved with a huge amount of raw speed and a lovely laid back attitude which is uncommon for a sprinter.
Mr Blacks victory has brought my two year old strike rate up to 22%. Something I'm pleased about considering the majority of my two year olds haven't run. I've given these backward types all the time they need, firmly believing that young horses tell you when they are ready. Thankfully I'm very lucky to have supportive owners who continue to be patient. I'd imagine we'll run most of them on the All Weather towards the back end of the year for educational purposes. There are some very likeable individuals amongst them and I hope their owners will be well rewarded.
From October 1st 2016 I will be doubling the number of stables at Saffron House to 50 boxes. Having filled to my current capacity by March of this year we had to utilise local pre trainers. Whilst this has worked well, it has been very labour intensive to manage properly, as I still over saw the horses and their daily exercise. When the opportunity arose to increase capacity here at Saffron House, it made perfect sense. It's of course a little daunting but we'll be working the sales hard in an attempt to fill them!
