JAMES GARFIELD TAKES AIM AT GLORIOUS GOODWOOD
I’m delighted to say we've had another excellent week on the track. Imperial State last Friday showed an impressive turn of foot in first time head gear under a cool ride from amateur Jess Cooley. When asked to win his race he bounded a couple of lengths clear and wasn’t for catching. The handicapper certainly hasn’t let him go unpenalized, putting him up 4lb. He could head for the ladies’ diamond race on King George day.
Another Batt made the long journey up to Ayr well worthwhile, taking care of his rivals in good style considering he was carrying a 7lb penalty. Today I made an entry for the 6f listed Rose Bowl stakes at Newbury.
I was absolutely thrilled to see James Garfield winning in such commanding fashion at Doncaster, he showed a fantastic attitude picking up well to win by 6 lengths unchallenged. He's a colt I've always held in high regard. James has come out of his race in fine form and will step back into stakes company, quite possible at Goodwood in the Group 2 Vintage stakes. It was of course special to get off the mark for my future in laws Bill and Tim Gredley.
Note, Mankind, made a very good impression at Ascot yesterday, showing inexperience in the early part of the race. There is no doubt, that when he steps up in trip he's sure to give his owners Michael & Sarah Spencer a huge amount to look forward to.
