CHELMSFORD GALLOP FOR GARFIELD
I have been very pleased with James Garfield’s progress in the lead up to the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf. We took him to Chelmsford last Saturday where he completed a 6-furlong piece of work around the bend under Michael Hills.
Michael had not sat on him since before he first ran and was extremely pleased with the work, as was I. It is now very much a case of ticking the days off one by one as he is match fit and in extremely good health. He will complete a light piece of work on Thursday before boarding the plane to America on Saturday morning. It is a hugely exciting time for myself and the team and we will continue to make sure every tiny detail is perfect before he steps onto the plane.
We have a relatively busy few days ahead with Essential and Encryption both running at Redcar today. Encryption is a colt I have always liked and I would expect him to leave his first run behind him.
However, he is a horse for next year and anything he achieves as a two-year-old is sure to be built upon. Essential has been progressing nicely and is stepping up to 7 furlongs for the first time today.
Next week, yard favourite Road to Dubai will head to either Pontefract or Windsor under Hayley Turner in a bid to follow up from his win at Redcar last time. Zizum, who was narrowly touched off on his last start will head to Yarmouth on Tuesday.
I have a leg in a gorgeous Exceed and Excel filly left to sell. Exceed and Excel is a stallion that I have a soft spot for being the sire of James Garfield. This filly has caught the eye through the breaking process and is sure to be an early and dare I say Ascot type. Please contact the office if you would like to be a part of what is sure to be an exciting season next year.
