JAMES GARFIELD TO RETURN TO SPRINTING
James Garfield has come out of the 2000 Guineas in fantastic form. I was over the moon with his effort as he was only beaten 4 ¼ lengths. Despite appearing to see out the trip, Frankie believed it was only pure heart and determination that saw him finish off his race so well. We’ll therefore drop back to his preferred 6 furlongs and aim him at the Sandy Lane at Haydock on May 26th. This should give him the perfect preparation for the Commonwealth Cup – a race which I’ve always had in mind for him.
Another Batt has returned home to his field sound and well after his epic victory at Chester yesterday. As always, he showed a tenacious attitude from a favourable draw to beat the equally admirable Dragons Tail by a neck. Its incredibly exciting to see him improve from two to three, with so many opportunities for him both here and abroad as the season heads on. He’s most likely to go on to Goodwood on May 26th for a valuable handicap before targeting Royal Ascot for either the Jersey Stakes or the Britannia. He’s a credit to the team and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season ahead with him.
