GOLD FOR USAIN BOAT
I was delighted to get the two-year olds off the mark when Usain Boat made all at Newmarket to win only his second start. He was a relatively inexpensive yearling purchase for a new syndicate headed by Mike Lilley named Blue Starr Racing. After a pleasing first effort at Yarmouth, I was very much hoping he could go one better which he did so on ground that was fast enough for him. I’ve always had Royal Ascot in the back of my mind for him, however that would only come into consideration if there was some cut in the ground.
Lahessar made a pleasing debut at Newbury in what looked like a well above average heat. He’s a colt that I’ve always liked and I have no doubt that he’ll be able to improve significantly from that.
Looking to the week ahead, we are relatively quiet until Saturday where there is a possibility I could run James Garfield in the Sandy Lane, Another Batt in the Three Friday Nights Handicap at Goodwood and Gilgamesh at York; all three horses will hopefully be using these runs as preparation for the Royal meeting in four week’s time.
