Saturday looks not only to be a busy day for us but also a very important one. James Garfield faces his stiffest test yet in the Sandy Lane at Haydock, there are only 8 runners but the field is stacked full of quality; it should give us a very good indication as to where he lies against the best 3-year-old sprinters in the country. I’ve been delighted with his form since the Guineas. This is prep for the Commonwealth Cup.

Yard favourite Another Batt came out of his Chester win in really good form. He heads to Goodwood for the Netbet Sport Handicap. Goodwood is a course I think will suit him and I hope he’ll put in another bold showing from near the pace.

Gilgamesh ran a mighty race in the Victoria cup to finish 7th and clearly winning his group on the near side. I’m keen to get him up the handicap to allow him to take his chance at the Royal meeting in the Hunt Cup; I’ve therefore opted to go to York whist the ground is quick and also give us the option to run once more before Ascot if we need to.
