With Royal Ascot around the corner it's been a matter of finalising preparations in the lead up to the world’s most exciting flat meeting. I'm pleased to report that James Garfield, Another Batt and Gilgamesh have all trained perfectly throughout the week and are in fantastic condition.
We'll be doubly represented in the Jersey Stakes on Wednesday; Another Batt is a warrior. Due to his excellent win at Chester he was raised to a mark of 106. His rating would suggest he certainly won't be out of place. Adam Kirby is booked to ride.
James Garfield is my big hope for the week; It's been well documented that he's been a model of consistency throughout his career. He kicked off this season winning the Greenham Stakes, then was beaten just four and a half lengths in the Guineas before heading to Haydock where he showed himself to be a little rusty dropped back in trip. The fast ground and 7 furlongs will suit him well. We're pleased to confirm the booking of champion jockey Silvestre de Sousa.
I've always adored Gilgamesh and he's thriving at present. He's entered in both the Royal Hunt Cup over a mile and the Wokingham over 6 furlongs. After much deliberation, I feel 6 furlongs will be more suitable at this stage in his career, therefore provided we have a dry week he'll run in the Wokingham on Saturday. We have enlisted the services of William Buick who won on him as a 2-year-old; William had a sit on him again earlier this week and was thrilled. It's a privilege to be turning up to the Royal meeting with a horse owned by the Niarchos Family. They've already had the most wonderful season and I very much hope I can contribute to it further.
